About Thornship Gundogs

 

Thornship Gundogs is situated in the Lowther Valley in Cumbria, surrounded by the Cumbrian Fells and the Lake District National Park. Just five minutes from junction 39 of the M6 at Shap, there are many varied training opportunities in the local countryside, including open fells and grouse moor.

 

Paul Dixon is an experienced retriever trainer and has won many field trials and working tests at both Novice and Open level over the years, as well as representing England at the Irish Game Fair.

 

Having retired as a Headteacher  he has been able to make the most of outstanding opportunities in the north of England, the Borders and Scotland.

 

With the advantage of being able to work with so many experienced and successful trainers in that part of the world, success at the highest level has followed, including qualification for the IGL Retriever championships of 2013, 2014 and 2022 and making up two Field Trial Champions.

He continues to compete at the highest level in Open Field Trials .

 

Paul welcomes friends and guests to train with him during the spring and summer at puppy, novice and open level, and sometimes has puppies and trained dogs available. He is heavily involved with local gundog clubs and helps to organise club training and competitions.
